Volunteer Opportunities at
CMUS
2007
Listed below are a series of opportunities to help
your mediation center thrive and grow.
These are things we, Charlotte and Kelly, see that should, could,
would be done if we had more hands and time.
Please consider taking on one of these discrete tasks and give us
a call at 410-810-9188. We
have tried to define just how long they might take and how many hours
might be necessary to complete them.
Upgrade our kitchen
Our kitchen would benefit immensely from a face lift, sanding and
painting the exterior of the cabinets, cleaning out the cupboards,
putting in new shelf paper. This
could be accomplished by one or two people in a weekend.
The room is air-conditioned so it would be a great hot summer
weekend activity!
Set up our library
Lisa Cameron has kindly brought in a pile of journals, magazines,
etc. to start a small reading library here at the Center.
This job includes looking through these materials, reading some
of the articles, and deciding which ones might of special interest to us
all. The result of this task
would be a list of articles we could then circulate to our mediators and
use as the basis of discussion at one of our potlucks in the fall.
This task could take as much as three or four day’s time, but
could be completed anytime in the next two months.
Newspaper articles
Several of you have writing talents and both Tineka and Mary have
taken some special media training offered by CMM.
We have one person, Wendy Costa, who has already agreed to write
a news article about our mediators, and by extension, our mediations.
Do you have an idea for an article?
Want to try your hand at writing one?
This task shouldn’t take more than a day or so.
Charlotte
has experience with this and is happy to help out anyone approaching
this for the first time.
Plan an outreach blitz
A few months ago Gerry Edwards planned an ‘outreach blitz’ by
going to the phone book and plotting out 26 locations in
Cecil
County
that would be good places for a stand-up plastic holder full of
brochures. By plotting out
with a map of the County she designed one six hour day to drive around
the county and discuss mediation and drop off brochures.
She and Charlotte then spent a great day, including a lovely
lunch out, driving around the county delivering brochures.
Both Kent and Queen Anne’s could do with another ‘outreach
blitz’. This would take an
evening to plan and one day to do!
Please consider helping with one of these opportunities.
