What is mediation?

Mediation is a process that brings people together to clarify issues, discuss options and, if possible, reach an agreement. It is an alternative to non-resolution or costly legal measures.

Mediation is voluntary and confidential. By using mediation, parties do not give up their legal rights. If an agreement is not reached, parties can still take their case to court if they wish.

Who are the mediators?

Mediators come from all walks of life, with diverse backgrounds and experiences.  Every mediator has undergone a rigorous fifty-hour training course in conflict resolution, listening skills and working with people.  Mediators are trained to remain neutral.  They will not make decisions for you, provide legal advice or recommend the terms of an agreement.  Please click on Mediators to view a list of mediators currently working with
CMUS.

Who does CMUS serve?  How much does it cost?

CMUS services are free.  Anyone with a dispute in Queen Anne's, Kent, or Cecil County, Maryland may request our services.  Many of our cases come to us from the District or Circuit Court; many others are referred to us by agencies, churches, etc.; even more people come to us after hearing about us from a friend or colleague.

When and where are mediations scheduled?

Mediations are scheduled at a variety of locations throughout the three counties and at various times, at the convenience of those requesting them.
